Background & Objective: Cheating in the university can be a predictor of workplace fraud and workplace fraud among physicians and specialists will have negative consequences This study was performed for the purpose of determining the prevalence of all kinds of cheating among medical students which were in their last three years of Medical School at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2010 Methods: The study sample consisted of 136 medical students in their last three years of study The participants were selected through simple random sampling The data collection tool was a selfadministered questionnaire The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts and its reliability was reported as 087 in a study Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent ttest (for the variable of gender) in SPSS statistical software Results: All students answered the questionnaire; thus the response rate was 100% Among the respondents 64% were male and the rest female According to the results more than 80% of students had experienced copying during an exam at least once during the academic period Moreover 25% of students have performed at least one kind of plagiarism in writing their thesis and essays The performance of medical students in the clinical course showed that 50% of students had cheated at least once during their academic period The rate of cheating was significantly lower in female students Conclusion: Although the majority of students have a positive attitude and believe cheating to be a dishonest action half of them have cheated This may be due to stress caused by examinations Therefore it seems that students behaviors should be changed and they must receive the necessary training in this regard so that stress is not the cause of fraud and this phenomenon is inhibited

Background & Objective: One of the most practical and most recognized methods of needs assessment and educational planning is the Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) model Today this model is employed as a creative and effective method in occupation or profession analysis Methods: In the present study during 3 workshops in 2 days and by using DACUM method educational needs assessment and occupation analysis was performed on the educational administrators (assistant dean for educational affairs in schools heads of departments and vicechancellors for educational affairs in educational hospitals) of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences Iran Results of this process served as foundational elements to planning training programs for the educational administrators Results: The workshop resulted in the identification of 6 duties and 51 tasks for vicechancellors for educational affairs in educational hospitals 9 duties and 81 tasks for assistant dean for educational affairs in schools 16 duties and 98 tasks for heads of departments Moreover a list of associated knowledge skills tools equipment supplies materials used and desirable worker traits for this occupational category was provided Then using results of panels a questionnaire was designed in order to identify the importance learning difficulty and frequency of performance of duties and tasks In addition lists of general knowledge worker behaviors tools equipment and supplies and future trends and concerns were verified by respondents and the DACUM committee Conclusion: Finally based on the verified results and review of the literature a training program based on goals context and method of performance and evaluation was prepared in order to be used by educational administrators of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences

Background & Objective: Master of public health (MPH) Course is designed for Increasing competency in family physicians employed in Irans health system The Contents of this course is based on society needs for increasing managing and public health This study was designed to evaluate the virtual education in MPH Course in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences Methods: This research was a qualitative and quantitative study The evaluation was according Kirkpatricks Model The study was done on 25 family physicians in Shiraz University of medical Sciences We used questionnaire which included goal attainment learning assessment compact disc (CD) quality and Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) questionnaire Data was gathered and then analyzed with SPSS software Also an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) was designed in education development center for third level evaluation according to Kirkpatricks Model For qualitative evaluation we did a semi structured interview with teachers Open questionnaires also were designed for students and data were extracted Results: 15 physicians full filled the questionnaires and 12 of them participated the OSCE The most interested and practical lessons were about geriatrics diseases out patient management and epidemiology basics The least interested lessons were about health promotion case management and managed health cares In OSCE the best scores were for obstetrics – gynecology and the least scores for pediatrics lessons Conclusion: According to participants viewpoints the disadvantages of the course were low quality compact discs future employment participants compact course and assessment methods The best advantages of this course were efficient learning and increasing knowledges of the students

Background & Objective: Due to increasing rate of medical knowledge volume and depth introducing new tasks and roles for general practitioners and restriction of time and resources in medical education it is essential to follow educational priorities especially in teaching medical doctors The aim of this study was to determine the conformity of educational programs of ophthalmology department in Shiraz school of medicine Shiraz Iran with the required educational priorities in medical doctor (MD) curriculum Methods: In this research we focused on two aspects of theoretical education of ophthalmology theoretical classes and final examinations First the topic discussed in the class or asked in final examinations was determined and its priority was graded according to a grading scale of A to D used in comprehensive study of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Iran Then after calculating sum of priorities the rate of conformity with the expected priorities was determined using chisquare test Results : In both theoretical classes and final examinations significant difference was observed between educational materials and the expected educational priorities (P < 005) Conclusion: In some cases the priority “A” had been paid less attention and priorities “B” “C” and “D” had been paid more attention than the expected rates Since the priorities considered in this study were based on those in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences comprehensive study that is approved by faculty members of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences revision of the educational priorities seems to be required

Background & Objectives: Each country needs strategies and longterm plans for achieving its objectives This issue is of a great importance in our country (Iran) as the hope of all world Moslem population Twenty year vision of the Islamic Republic of Iran along with comprehensive scientific map prepared by experts in different scientific fields can help our country to achieve longterm objectives of the development The main aim of the present study was to determine sub activities of medical education fields in health scientific map from the viewpoints of experts in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2011 Methods: In this qualitative study performed as focus group discussion eight faculty members of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences were selected based on their professional experience in each of the domains of comprehensive scientific map in health sector The study was performed in ten sessions in which the required activities and subactivities in each domain were determined by participants Then data were summarized classified and prioritized for each domain Results : Based on the experts viewpoints the main sub activities in each domain were as follow: Educational equity: need assessment for human resources and curriculum review Faculties: revising organizational chart and improving faculties capabilities Implementing systematic evaluation: evaluation of students and professors based on standards Improvement of students scientific level: implementing a comprehensive encouraging system and socialbased education Developing interuniversity collaboration: university independence Extending knowledge and technology boundaries: implementing evidencebased medicine in the university Quantitative and qualitative improvement of staff: modifying organizational chart of Vice Chancellor for Education Implementing clinical governance system: establishing program designing committee based on the 6item clinical governance principles Financial: improving budget chart Conclusion: Continuous programming by University managers is required to set operational planning based on the above mentioned priorities

Background & Objective : Costbenefit analysis is a scientific method which helps policy makers to select a project among other projects with the same defined goal making sure that the chosen project has the maximum benefit with a fixed cost or the minimum cost with a fixed level of benefit Therefore universities should consume the resources more carefully and efficiently This survey was conducted to provide documents for evidence based decision making for policymakers Methods : Having the cooperation of the admission office the number of medical students was extracted and then with the assistance of university budgeting manager total costs were extracted regarding education research culturalrecreational affairs and management emphasizing on medicine field Finally data was analyzed with Excel Results : Our findings showed that the per capita cost in education was 2683 million rials in research it was 1325 million rials and as for culturalrecreational affairs and management it was 74 and 1445million rials respectively The sum of per capita costs was 3034 million rials Conclusion : The calculated cost is fivefold the amount which was allocated as a per capita cost The total cost of the university was more than the amount allocated by the management and planning organization this necessitates further revisions in allocating recourses to universities by management and planning organization
